Livia and Krista: Remixed and Revisited

So after a few lengthy voicemails back and forth to my very best friend Livia in St. Louis, we came to the realization that we both have a couple things going on in our lives that the other one didn't know about. This makes both of us a little bummed out. We met as teenagers in Lawrence, Kansas and grew to be inseparable by the time we were in our early 20's. My abrupt move to California was a major adjustment for both of us and the first 6 months I spent crying into the phone about how bad I missed her. We swore to each other that no matter what, we would always stay best friends. Not the kind that talk here and there, but the kind that knows every detail even from 4 states away. We do pretty good with the web chats, the phone calls and the emails, but there is still the fact that things are different and hectic because of marriages and babies and careers and whatnot. So I would like to take this opportunity to renew our vows.

The best way I can think of to do that is to say exactly what I said to her for my Maid of Honor speech at her wedding:

"Today, we meet to celebrate two very special people. Livia and me.

For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Krista, and Livia is my very best friend in the whole wide world.
I thought a long time about what to say about Miss Livia Lynne.
She’s got a sharp wit to be matched by no other I’ve met. She’s beautiful, driven, ambitious, smart, hilarious, and focused.
She’s the one that no matter what happens in life she will ALWAYS be there.
We’ve been through good times and bad,
we’ve laughed til we had no breath left,
we’ve fought,
we’ve re-written the words to almost every song that’s ever been on the radio,
we’ve gone through it all.

We’ve spent birthdays in my apartment just the two of us on the floor eating ice cream and drinking margaritas,
she’s packed up everything I’ve owned multiple times and moved me from one emotional disaster to another.
We’ve gone through breakups, make-ups, college degrees, babies, dogs, cats, lost hampsters, pumpkin patches, tears, beers, and sand burn from abnormally windy beaches in Southern California.
We’ve partied until the sun came up and laughed together until it went down again.

With just a glance around room you can see that Livia surrounds herself with the very best of friends and the very best of people.
That is how I know that Jake, if she is marrying you, you are definitely best friend material.

So from her very old best friend, to her very new best friend:
you will laugh with your whole body, love with your whole heart and live the most amazing life together.
I hope in 50 years, you'll be standing in another room like this one, hopefully looking at a lot of the same faces
and you’ll be thinking the same thing that I am right now,
which is that there is no one story, or no speech that you can prepare,
that can ever possibly explain how much this girl has rocked your world,
changed your life,
and how very very lucky you are that she chose YOU to be her very best friend forever.
I love you both, congratulations."

(So now when you watch this video, and you hear this cheesy song, know in your head that these are not the lyrics we sing. Ours are much much funnier. Also, don't make fun of our clothes. These photos and videos are in chronological order so the ones toward the beginning I sincerely apologize for)

  1. LOVED the video, made me cry! Made me think of that old saying, "Make new friends and keep the old, one is silver and the other one gold." You and Livia are gold!
